How to Get Rid of Spots

So now you know what causes the odd spot you can stop getting them by following a few rules:

Don’t squeeze them. This could lead to infection, a bigger spot forming and damage to the surrounding tissue and scarring that takes an age to disappear!

CleansingNo 1 plan effective cleansing
Just be careful with over scrubbing and over stimulating the area as this can make your skin produce more oil. So a gentle effective approach is needed with a mild cleanser and toner combined with a clay based mask and a Zit Zapper

Remember too that our skin does need oil to remain healthy so don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater as this will make your skin look old and dehydrated.

You can look at using a special little tool called a comdedon extractor to remove blackheads and spots – any chemist will be able to sell you one. At beflattered.com we’re not keen on this approach and think you should opt for effective cleansing. If you put pressure on the area around blackheads and the skin becomes inflamed or a bit aggravated you stand more chance of making the situation worse rather than better.

Steaming is also a great way to open up your pores and loosen these ugly little critters so you can cleanse then away more easily.  Don't steam if you have broken veins on your face or if your skin is sensitive or inflamed.

Simply lean over a bowl of steaming hot water, pop a towel over your head to keep the steam in. Steam your face for a few minutes. Don’t get too close to the water and avoid burning yourself, of course! Follow with another cleanse and a good tone and moisturise.

How to Squeeze a SpotAnd if you can’t resist squeezing them yourself – we take NO responsibility for the damage you do to your skin and the tissue surrounding the spot but make sure you follow the basic rules!

  1. Cleanse
  2. Steam
  3. Wash your hands
  4. Wrap your fingers in a tissue
  5. Squeeze very gently

Take it off At Night!
Make sure you your make-up off EVERY night. Never go to bed with a face full of make-up – your skin needs to be able to breath and repair itself naturally and it can’t do this if it is suffocated with make-up, dead skin, blusher and SPF leftovers from day.

We know its hard and when you are really whacked the last thing you want to do stand for a few minutes and remove your make-up – it’s a much nicer thought to wait till morning… well don’t 1 minute of cleansing will:

  • Help stop a breakout
  • Give your skin a chance to breath
  • Will give you younger looking skin
  • Force you to treat your skin to some fresh active moisture
  • Save your bed linen!
