What are Cracked Heels?

Dry and Cracked heels are a very common problem for ageing feet. They are unsightly and declare uncared for and unloved feet. And considering in a lifetime the average person walks over 6500 Km it's not surprising that feet start to look craggy if not cared for.

Heels can look rough, take on a whiter and flakey appearance on the edge where the skin is under the most pressure.    Feet spread out through the weight you put on the heel whilst walking. The result is that the surrounding skin can look yellow and discoloured too. All adding up to old lady feet.

Also Cracked Heels are a great place for dirt to get trapped making cracks look even more noticeable and potentially a health problem.

For the majority of suffers the problem is cosmetic and can easily be sorted with some TLC and major moisturising. But if the problem is unchecked and serious cracks start to appear they can bleed and become very uncomfortable to walk on. If left alone to crack up further they can also be open for infection.

There are lots of common problems that affect the feet and some have potential health risks. Because they are out of sight sometimes problems are ignored and allowed to get worse. If you have diabetes then you must see a doctor or chiropodist for advice and care of your feet. You should also consult your doctor, podiatrist or chiropodist if you are experiencing pain in any part of your foot.

There is an old saying “to keep a smile on your face look after your feet”
